Watkins Glen, New York-2019

In 2019, I took a memorable day trip to Watkins Glen State Park in New York, and despite the rain, it was an incredible experience. Known for its stunning waterfalls and unique rock formations, this park is a must-visit for nature lovers and hikers.
The Hike and Waterfalls
The rainy weather didn’t dampen the beauty of the park. We hiked the famous Gorge Trail, a 2-mile path that winds through the glen, crossing stone bridges and leading past 19 waterfalls. The rain actually added to the magic, making the cascading falls even more powerful and creating a misty, otherworldly atmosphere.
The trail itself was breathtaking, carved through layers of shale and sandstone that were formed over millions of years. Fun fact: these rocks date back to the Devonian period, around 400 million years ago! The formations have been shaped over time by Glen Creek, which continues to carve through the gorge today.
If you’re looking for a quick yet awe-inspiring outdoor adventure, Watkins Glen is the perfect destination. The combination of waterfalls, dramatic cliffs, and lush greenery makes it a true gem in the Finger Lakes region.
