One Night in Ocean City, Maryland: A Quick Overnight Stop on Our Drive Home

We didn’t originally plan to stop in Ocean City. We were on our way home and just got tired from the drive. Instead of pushing through, we decided to pull over for the night and rest.

Since we were already stopping, we figured we might as well stay somewhere by the water.

That’s how we ended up in Ocean City.

We booked a room at Courtyard by Marriott Ocean City Oceanfront for the night. Nothing planned or fancy. Just somewhere to sleep and break up the drive.

Check-in was easy, and it was nice being able to park, get settled, and not think about driving anymore for the day.

After we got our room , we walked over to the Boardwalk just to get outside for a bit.

It was a pretty typical evening for most. Walking around, shops open, and the usual beach town atmosphere. It did remind me a lot of the Jersey Shore! with the amusement parks, restaurants and bike rentals there was so much to do. Some shops were not open since it’s out of season until next week, Memorial Day weekend.

For dinner, we stopped at Tipsy Taco and kept it simple with quesadillas and guava smoothies. It was an easy, casual meal. Our server was a young man from Italy, he was really kind and shared how he ended up in Ocean City. We got talking because my husband and I were curious about his accent. He shared that both of his parents passed away when he was 18 and when it was time for college he had nothing back home for him anymore. He wanted to live the American dream and has since moved to the United States and got married. He had nothing but positive things to say about this country and says he loved the work mentality of most Americans. It was so interesting to hear such positive things from someone like that considering our current countries circumstances. My husband, who was also not born here but is now a US Citizen shared that there is so much opportunity here and shared his story of his parents coming to the US with him and now being a business owner himself. It was so inspiring hearing both of them talk and I truly enjoyed this moment after dinner.

After dinner we took a last stroll down to the big boardwalk sign. We snapped some photos and snuggled up with our baby!

On the way to the sign there was a massive sand sculpture and a sign that said “Bible Sand Sculptures by Randy Hoffman”

The sculptures were these beautiful detailed portraits of Jesus Christ in the Sand. Surrounded by scriptures. I was amazed to see this art and courage in public faith as Christians are not a hot topic right now. It was beautiful to see.

We headed back to our hotel and to rest. what a great evening to end our roadtrip.
