Niagara Falls & Toronto - 2019
Niagara Falls is a destination that never fails to amaze, no matter how many times you visit. Over a quick weekend trip, we were reminded of its timeless charm, breathtaking views, and its perfect proximity to other exciting cities like Toronto. Although this visit was short and sweet, it left us wanting more, as it always does. Here’s a recap of our whirlwind weekend getaway!

Saturday: Arriving at the Falls
We stayed at the Sheraton right on the falls, and let me tell you, the view alone is worth the trip. There is something magical about waking up to the thunderous roar of the falls and watching the mist rise as the sunlight hits the water. If youre planning a trip to Niagara Falls, staying this close to the action is a game-changer.
After checking in, we spent most of Saturday strolling along the strip. Clifton Hill, the bustling heart of Niagara Falls, is full of attractions, quirky shops, and endless opportunities for people-watching. We didn’t over-plan; instead, we soaked up the energy of the area, stopping wherever curiosity took us.

For dinner, we opted for a nostalgic favorite: Rainforest Cafe. It’s one of those places that brings out your inner child with its vibrant jungle theme, animatronic animals, and thunderstorm simulations. It may not be a hidden gem, but it’s always a fun, reliable choice.

Sunday: Exploring Toronto and Canadian Comfort Food
Sunday morning, we decided to take advantage of Niagara Falls’ proximity to Toronto. The drive up to Canada’s largest city is just under two hours, and it’s a scenic journey that flies by. Toronto’s skyline greeted us with its iconic CN Tower, setting the stage for an urban adventure.
One of the highlights of the day was indulging in Canada’s quintessential comfort food: poutine. We’d heard so much about Nom Nom, a famous spot that is practically a shrine for poutine lovers. Their take on this classic dish didn’t disappoint. It crispy fries, rich gravy, and squeaky cheese curds all came together in the perfect bite. It was a delicious way to experience a taste of Canada’s food scene.

Though we didn’t have much time to explore Toronto further, the quick day trip was a fun contrast to the natural wonder of Niagara Falls.

Looking Ahead: More to Come
This time around, our trip was a brief dip into everything Niagara Falls and Toronto have to offer. We didn’t do many of the big-ticket activities like the Hornblower boat tour or the Skylon Tower but it was still a memorable getaway. There’s something to be said for just soaking in the beauty of the falls, enjoying great food, and exploring without an agenda.
Luckily, this wasn’t our last visit to the area. A few years later, we returned to both Niagara Falls and Toronto, diving deeper into all the attractions, sights, and hidden gems we missed on this trip. You can check out that blog post “Niagara Falls & Toronto 2024”
