Indiana- 2026

After leaving Michigan, we drove down into Indiana with the intention of visiting my husband’s uncle.
Unfortunately, we found out that he was also on vacation…. in Alaska! So, our plans changed, and we decided to make a few unexpected stops along the way. A quick side note about my husband’s uncle: he is honestly goals when it comes to traveling. He has visited almost every state in the country, many of them by motorcycle, and he collects something from each Harley-Davidson dealership he visits. It’s such a cool way to document all of his travels. It’s similar to how every state we travel to we grab a sticker or if we’re lucky to find one of those penny machines, we’ll get that too!
Since we weren’t able to visit him, we ended up in Whiteland, Indiana, where we stopped at the Gas Station Sign Cemetery.
The Gas Station Sign Cemetery

The Gas Station Sign Cemetery is a collection of old gas station signs that were preserved over several years. The signs were collected by a local resident who wanted to preserve these pieces of old roadside history. Over time, the collection became a unique local landmark, even though it was never originally intended to be a tourist attraction.
It was definitely an unexpected stop, but that’s one of my favorite things about road trips… you can find some of the most interesting places simply by taking a little detour. We snapped a few photos and did not linger considering this was someone’s property where they live. All the signs are basically in their side yard in the middle of a random neighborhood. Worth the stop though! Heading down to Kentucky we stoped at
The World’s Biggest Rocking Chair

Located at Long’s Furniture World an enormous rocking chair that has become a well-known roadside landmark in the area. The Rocking chair itself is located on the side of the building. You can see it from the main road but with all the trees in the area you may pass it since it’s relatively skinny wood. Put the address to Longs Furniture World into your GPS. Look for the massive billboard and long white building.
After our quick photo stop, we grabbed some lunch at Culver’s. We enjoyed our lunch and the beautiful sunshine before getting back on the road.
Of course, traveling with a baby means there are always a few unexpected stops along the way including a couple of diaper blowouts…
But that’s actually one of the things I love about road trips compared to flying. We can pull over whenever we need to, change the baby, feed him, take a break, and get back on the road without having to worry about anyone else.
Once everyone was cleaned up and ready to go, we continued our drive south toward Kentucky.
I’ve been to Kentucky before, but this was my husband and son’s first time, so we’ll save that adventure for the next blog!
