My Unforgettable Journey Through Spain

In 2018, I embarked on my first-ever solo trip abroad, and what better destination than Spain? Over the course of two weeks, I explored vibrant cities, breathtaking landscapes, and iconic landmarks. This journey was filled with unforgettable moments, and I’m excited to share it with you!

Barcelona: Park Güell and More

My adventure began in Barcelona, where I visited the whimsical Park Güell. Designed by the renowned Antoni Gaudí, this park is a masterpiece of colorful mosaics, organic architecture, and sweeping views of the city. One of my favorite spots was the famous serpentine bench featured in The Cheetah Girls 2. Sitting there, I couldnt help but hum a tune from the movie and soak in the beauty of this iconic location.

Another memorable stop in Barcelona was the Plaça de la Catedral, a stunning square that surrounds the grand Gothic Cathedral of Barcelona. This spot was perfect for wandering, enjoying street performances, and admiring the historic architecture.

Madrid: Royalty and Rain

From Barcelona, I traveled to Madrid, Spain’s capital city. I toured the magnificent Palacio Real de Madrid, a palace that boasts over 3,000 rooms and exquisite art collections. Walking through the grand halls felt like stepping back in time.

One regret from my time in Madrid was missing a Real Madrid game, it was pouring rain, and I opted to stay dry. But hey, there’s always next time!

Toledo: Climbing to Mirador del Valle

Next, our tour group, affectionately dubbed “The New Yorkers,” ventured to Toledo. This medieval city was a highlight of the trip. We climbed to the top of a hill to take in the Mirador del Valle, a stunning viewpoint overlooking the city and its historic castle. Fun fact: Toledo is known as the “City of Three Cultures” for its historical coexistence of Christians, Muslims, and Jews. The panoramic views from the top were absolutely worth the climb!

Alhambra: Moroccan Vibes

Our journey then led us to Alhambra, where I soaked in the Moorish influence that defines this area. The Alhambra Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, felt like stepping into another world with its intricate designs and serene courtyards. While I didnt take many photos here, the atmosphere was unforgettable.

Seville: Solo Adventures and Carriage Rides

Seville was where I embraced some much-needed alone time. I climbed the historic Torre del Oro, a 13th-century watchtower that offers fantastic views of the Guadalquivir River. Taking on this adventure solo was refreshing and reminded me of the joys of traveling independently.

I ended my time in Seville with a dreamy horse-and-carriage ride through the city, soaking in the charm and romance of its streets.

Málaga: Reaching New Heights

In Málaga, I rode the Mirador Princess, the tallest modular Ferris wheel in Europe. The views of the coastline and city from the top were absolutely breathtaking and made this stop extra special.

Ronda: Beauty and a Lesson Learned

Our final stop was Ronda, a city perched on dramatic cliffs with incredible views of mountains and farmland. The highlight was visiting the Puente Nuevo, a stunning bridge that spans the El Tajo gorge. Unfortunately, I was pickpocketed here while listening to a beautiful guitar performance. Thankfully, it was our last day, and I still had my passport!
