Niagara Falls Round 2: A Buffalo-to-Canada Adventure

Our second trip to Niagara Falls was just as thrilling if not more than the first! This time, our adventure began in Buffalo, NY, since my husband had a work trip there. While he was in the office, I took the opportunity to explore the city solo, indulging in art, great food, and a little nostalgia along the way.

A Day in Buffalo: Art, Wings & Wanderlust

I kicked off my day at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, a must-visit for any art lover. One of the highlights? Lunch with Frida Kahlos well, sort of! The museum featured works from the legendary artist, and I took my time admiring her pieces before stumbling across a Lynn Chadwick sculpture of two figures. This sculpture caught my eye immediately because I had seen it before at Grounds for Sculpture in New Jersey’s the very place I got married! It was such a full-circle moment and a fun reminder of my love for art and travel.

Once my museum wanderings came to an end, it was time for some classic Buffalo eats. My husband and I reunited for dinner at Sports City Pizza Pub, where we devoured some mouthwatering Buffalo wings’ because how could we not? To top it off, we grabbed dessert at Cookies and Cream, indulging in some of the best ice cream in town.

Crossing the Border: Niagara Falls, Canada

With full stomachs and excitement in the air, we hit the border and made our way to Niagara Falls, Canada. Even though we had been here before, the sight of the Falls never gets old. We took in the roaring cascades, wandered along the tourist strip, and popped into Ripley’s Believe It or Not for some quirky entertainment.

Venturing outside the main tourist area, we came across the Niagara Flower Clock, a stunning (and massive) floral timepiece surrounded by beautiful gardens. It was one of those unexpected finds that made the trip even more special.

Dining in the Sky at the Skylon Tower

One of the most unforgettable moments of this trip was dining in the sky at the Skylon Tower. The restaurant actually revolves, giving you a 360-degree view of Niagara Falls and the city as you eat. The food was delicious, but the real showstopper was the breathtaking panoramic scenery. If you ever visit, I highly recommend booking a reservation just before sunset to see the Falls in daylight and then illuminated at night! FYI get Tim Hortons for dessert.

A Hidden Arcade Straight Out of a Fever Dream

Just when we thought the night was over, we stumbled upon something bizarre yet fascinating. A hidden arcade beneath the Skylon Tower. It felt like stepping into a time capsule, with old machines, abandoned games, and dim lighting straight out of a fever dream. Of course, we couldn’t resist playing a few rounds of air hockey before calling it a night.

More to Come, Round 3?

This trip was definitely more spontaneous and offbeat than our first visit, but that made it even more memorable. And the best part? There’s a third trip to Canada coming up - one with even more scenery, adventures, and things to do. Stay tuned for the next chapter of our Niagara Falls journey!

Until then happy travels!
